This skin care brand first caught my eye on IG back in August 2018 with a pic of flawless, dewy skin in all its natural glory. One glance and I thought, “I’ll have whatever she’s having!”. After a quick scan of the brand’s IG feed (@alpynbeauty) I immediately learned 3 things:
It was relatively new to the skin care scene.
It boasted a total of 3** products - perfectly aligning with my current goal of “streamlined skincare”.
It was not yet available in Canada, nor could it be shipped here - UGH!

I became a follower nonetheless because, once a brand jumps on my radar, it rarely falls off until I get to sample it in some way.

Background
In 2015, after 15 years in NYC, Alpyn Beauty founder Kendra Butler took her strong marketing & sales background with top beauty houses like Givenchy, Dr. Dennis Gross and Clarins, left NYC for Jackson Hole, opened her own apothecary, Alpyn Beauty Bar, and started selling her products in small batches to her clientele. The brand grew quickly through word of mouth and a strong social media game before receiving the ultimate stamp of approval and a hoist into the cult-classic-stratosphere by Goop’s JGJ (that’s resident skin care guru of Goop, Jean Godfrey-June). Now the brand’s shining star products** are available to us Canadian girls, thanks to Goop becoming our official Alpyn dealer!! And, trust me, every Canadian girl needs these products in their arsenal for the winters we have to suffer through!

Ingredients
While the brand’s aesthetic is very dreamy, all wildflowers, dewy skin and gorgeous mountain scenery, the products themselves are far from whimsical. The ingredients found in Alpyn’s products are sustainably foraged in the high mountain altitudes or hand-cultivated by the Alpyn team with the aim of hydrating and regenerating skin even in the most unforgiving climates (hellooooo, prairie winters!). This is achieved using plants and botanicals that have naturally adapted to flourishing in environments of high altitudes, low humidity, limited oxygen, and harsh conditions of sun, wind and snowfall. Wild arnica and chamomile, sage, borage, and calendula are the regular stars of the show, forming the brand’s own proprietary “PlantGenius Complex”, and rightly so for the powerful properties they possess! In addition to the PG Complex, each product contains rich antioxidants, natural hydrators and ceramides, and two out of 4 products use Bakuchiol, a non-irritating plant-derived retinol alternative. Yes, that retinol, the one that resurfaces your skin like WHOA and leaves it glowing and evenly-toned. This bioavailable alternative is even safe to use when pregnant or breastfeeding. I love love love that Alpyn delivers 4 hard-hitting products that can entirely sustain your skin care regime (for the bare minimalist or a go-to travel routine) or form a solid foundation that also allows you to play Chemist and supplement your favorites in as well. With the cleanser, serum, moisturizer and eye cream covered, it leaves room to add in your favorite toner, spray, and/or essence and, of course, SPF. I personally like to add a rosewater toner and my SK-II essence before the serum and Celazome SPF 29 after the moisturizer.
